HARRISBURG - Rep. Craig Williams (R-Chester/Delaware), a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and former federal prosecutor for the Department of Justice has been appointed to the House Veteran Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
“I am honored to be appointed to a committee which serves our nation’s heroes and our communities’ first responders,” Williams said. “As a Marine veteran of 28 years, I understand these issues and commit to putting my shoulder into bringing them much needed support and relief. The safety of our community is my first concern, and these public servants deserve our earnest efforts.”
Williams was also assigned to the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee, which is responsible for all programs and services related to older Pennsylvanians; the Human Services Committee, which considers legislation that impacts the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs; and the Urban Affairs Committee, which reviews legislation affecting the state’s largest cities.
“These are the committees that I specially requested, because these are the constituencies that desperately need advocacy. I am so very proud to be on these committees and take them very seriously,” Williams said. “My aim is to be a champion for our seniors, those struggling with addiction, the intellectually disabled and the many groups whose needs come through these committees. I could not be prouder of my lineup of committees. It reflects who I want to be as a public servant.”
Williams is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Before retiring as a colonel with 28 years of service, he was personally decorated 11 times, including twice for acts of valor in combat.
During Williams’ military service, he became the chief prosecutor for the largest base in the Marine Corps. He also served as deputy legal counsel to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and later served as a federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice. He was also a prosecutor for the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
