HARRISBURG - Rep. Craig Williams (R-Chester/Delaware) announced that a grant from the Multimodal Transportation Fund has been awarded to Kennett Township to convert a busy and dangerous five-point intersection into a roundabout.
“Public safety is a top priority for me, which is why I fought to ensure this grant funding for this critical project,” Williams said. “This intersection has proven to be too dangerous for too long, and I am glad we will finally make a necessary change.”
Kennett Township has been awarded over $2 million to construct a roundabout, replacing the five-point intersection. The grant will be used to remove the five-point intersection of South Union Street, East Hillendale Road, Old Kennett Road, Kaolin Road and West Hillendale Road, by constructing these points into a roundabout. The roundabout aims to reduce congestion and accidents in addition to enhancing pedestrian safety and efficiency of traffic.
“I'm excited to announce that Kennett Township will be receiving $2.19 million for their Five Point Intersection Improvement. This project will improve safety and accessibility in transportation for Kennett Township, and this grant makes the possibility of improvement a reality. As a member of the Senate Transportation Committee, I’m proud to support projects to increase resources for safe and efficient transportation in our communities. This grant will make a huge impact on Kennett Township and the entire Chester County infrastructure," said Sen. John Kane (Chester/Delaware).
This project is funded by Multimodal Transportation Fund Program.
