Williams Introduces Legislation to Extend Attorney General’s Jurisdiction on Philadelphia Crime

Rep. Craig Williams (R-Delaware) has introduced legislation, House Bill 2275, to extend Act 58 of 2019, a bipartisan legislative effort that provides the attorney general concurrent jurisdiction over gun crime in Philadelphia.

Prosecuting gun crimes has been one of my top priorities since getting to the General Assembly earlier this year, including appropriations for more gun prosecutors in Philadelphia and Delaware County, appropriations for the Joint Local-State Firearm Task Force and a study of prosecution rates and sentences for gun crimes across the state, among other legislation to be tougher on gun and violent crime. In these remarks, I discuss the reintroduction of Act 58 which expired earlier this year, allowing the Attorney General concurrent jurisdiction to prosecute gun crimes in Philadelphia.
